Abdul Sattar Gasim
Dean, Faculty of Educational Studies
Mr Abdul Sattar Gasim is the Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies (FES) at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. With over 12 years of experience in the field of education, Sattar is an educator and researcher who has... made significant contributions to the development of teacher education, in particular mathematics education.
As Dean of FES, Sattar oversees the academic and administrative affairs of the faculty, working closely with faculty members and students to ensure a high-quality learning experience. In addition to his administrative duties, he also teaches educational related modules including mathematics education, and research modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Currently, Sattar is an active member of the Teacher Education Panel of Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA), where he provides valuable input on matters related to teacher education and training. He has also participated in various academic conferences and research discussions, helping to shape education policies and standards in the Maldives.
Sattar holds a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Education and has attended many trainings. He has developed several courses at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. These courses reflect his passion for curriculum development, teacher education, and professional development with a focus on mathematics education.
Currently, Sattar is working on a research project in collaboration with TISS, SCA, and VC, funded by IDRC. The project, titled "Multi-Modal Approach to Teacher Professional Development in Low-Resource Settings", explores innovative approaches to teacher training and development in resource-constrained environments. This research is just one example of Sattar's commitment to advancing the field of education and promoting equitable access to quality education for all.
Sattar is a dedicated and inspiring educator who is deeply committed to his work and ensuring students achieve their academic and career goals.

Fathimath Saeed
Associate Dean, Faculty of Educational Studies
Meet Fathimath Saeed, our accomplished Associate Dean in the Faculty of Educational Studies at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. With over 7 years of experience at the college, Fathimath has held various roles including... Secondary Teacher, Leading Teacher, Deputy Principal, School Principal, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer before taking on her current position.
Fathimath's education includes a Master of Education in School Management [University of Mysore, India], and her research interests include Teacher Professional Development, Lifelong Learning, and Transformational Learning. She recently co-authored a publication titled "Effectiveness and challenges faced in Digitizing Higher Secondary Schools of Maldives" and "Teachers’ Perspectives on the Impact of Online Learning on Students’ Learning in the IJSRI 2021, published by Â鶹ÊÓƵ, Maldives.
Currently, Fathimath is the Principal Investigator of an international research grant "A Multimodal Approach to Teacher Professional Development in low resource settings" in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Science, India. This Â鶹ÊÓƵ led research project is conducted in Maldives, Afghanistan and Nepal.
Fathimath's commitment to education extends beyond research as she teaches modules like Transformational Dimensions of Life Long Learning and Promoting Successful Learning to MAsters students and coordinated various programs such as Master of Education (OUM), Master of Arts in Education (UWE), Master of Education in Teaching, Master of Education Leadership and Management, Master of Teaching Dhivehi Language, Masters of Teaching Quranic Studies and Master of Teaching Islamic Studies. She has also developed courses such as Promoting Successful Learning (in Dhivehi and English) and Curriculum Design and Management.

Dr. Aishath Nasheeda
Assistant Professor
Dr. Aishath Nasheeda is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Educational Studies at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Social Psychology and Master of Science in Educational ...Sociology from the University Putra Malaysia (UPM) Malaysia. BA First class (HONS) Psychology from UCSI University, Malaysia. Dr. Nasheeda draws her experience from working as a teacher and a teacher counsellor in various schools in Male; including Villa International High School.
Dr. Nasheeda's research mainly focuses on social issues such as self-esteem, bullying, mental health, violence and life skills education. She is well-versed in both qualitative and quantitative research. However, her main interest lies in qualitative research with a special focus on narrative analysis. Her multimethod approach to narrative analysis has become a popular framework among narrative research around the world. She has been invited as a guest speaker to a number of international Universities, such as the University of Georgia for a late-summer course on Narrative Inquiry, the University of South Florida on Transforming Transcripts into Stories and the University of Putra Malaysia.
Dr. Nasheeda is the lead researcher to one of the biggest research grants obtained by Â鶹ÊÓƵ; A Multimodal Approach to Teacher Professional Development in Low Resource Setting, a project funded by IDRC. This is South-South research conducted in collaboration with Afghanistan, Nepal and Maldives, with technical support from the TATA Institute of Social Science (TISS) Mumbai. She is also heavily engaged in many other research projects at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. She also contributes to the VC research digest and is an editor for Psychology Bulletin at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. She is also a reviewer for IJSRI and several international journals.
Dr. Nasheeda is the coordinator for the MSc Counseling program at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. She supervises PhD and undergraduate psychology-related research.

Mariyam Nihaadh
Senior Lecturer
Mariyam Nihaadh is a Senior Lecturer at Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Faculty of Education. She has been working at Â鶹ÊÓƵ for over 11 years and has previously worked as an Associate Lecturer at Maldives Nat...ional University's Faculty of Education. Mariyam has a Master of Education degree from Open University Malaysia and her research interests include assessment and evaluation, pedagogy in teaching, inclusion and SEN, differentiated instruction, questioning skills, second language acquisition, primary education, early childhood education, and teacher professional development.
Mariyam is currently involved in an IDRC project titled "A Multimodal Approach to Teacher Professional Development in Low Resource Settings". She teaches various courses at the college including modules related to primary teaching, pedagogy and Inclusive Education at the undergraduate level and research modules at the Postgraduate level. She also coordinates several programs such as the Master of Education, Bachelor of Teaching Primary, Bachelor of Teaching Primary and Inclusive Education, and Master of Teaching (Quranic Studies).
Mariyam has contributed to the course development of Master of Teaching Early Childhood Education and Masters in Inclusive Education. In addition to her teaching and coordination duties, she has also conducted various voluntary work including conducting professional development sessions for schools on classroom management, teaching pedagogy and many more. As such she had conducted PD for both primary and secondary teachers at Thaajuddeen School (2014). She also conducts various sessions together with experts in the field to improve the quality of teachers and to introduce them to a play-based pre-school education approach from a very textbook-based approach.
Mariyam has recently co-authored a publication titled "Working towards effective feedback: Exploring Students’ Perception of the feedback given for their writing in Higher Secondary Education", a paper in Dhivehi language. She also has two other publications, one on Student engagement during online learning and another on Teaching Methodology, for which she is the author. She is a dedicated educator and researcher who has contributed significantly to the education field.

Fathimath Warda
Senior Lecturer
Fathimath Warda is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Educational Studies at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. She has been working in the field of education for over 25 years and, at Â鶹ÊÓƵ for 10 years. Warda ...holds a Master of Arts in Education degree from the University of East Anglia.
Warda has a wealth of experience in the field of education. She has worked as a Teacher Educator at the National Institute of Education (NIE) and served as the Acting Head at Madharsathul Ifthithaah and Shaviyani AEC. Additionally, she has served as the Head of Department-English at Madhrasathul Ifthithaah. While teaching in schools, her subjects were Math and Science in the primary and Physics and English in secondary.
Warda has authored several conference papers, including "Student Engagement: A vital component in an Era of online learning," which was presented at the Innovation Arabia 14 conference.
Warda's research interests include teaching and learning, inclusion, ESL studies, ICT integration, smart learning, blended learning, and the impact and influence of social media. Currently, her research projects are focused on self-assessment and peer assessment in schools, the role of teachers in Special Educational Needs (SEN), and the impact of teachers' content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge in language classrooms.
Warda's current teaching modules include Educational Assessment and Evaluation (at masters level), Special Projects in Linguistics, Methodology in language teaching, and English Language for Teachers.
Warda also provides consultancy services, including Professional Development (PD) sessions for schools. She is a Lecturer representative of the Academic Senate of Â鶹ÊÓƵ.
With her extensive experience in the field of education and her research interests focused on improving teaching and learning outcomes, Warda is a valuable member of the Faculty of Educational Studies at Â鶹ÊÓƵ.

Aishath Shimla
Lecturer
With over 18 years of experience in education, Ms. Aishath Shimla is a committed Lecturer at Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Faculty of Education Studies. She holds a Master of Arts in Education from the University o...f the West of England and Bachelor of Arts in Dhivehi Language from the Maldives National University.
Ms. Shimla specialises in teaching of literature, linguistics, Maldivian history, and education. She is also the course coordinator of Bachelor and Masters level of Teaching Dhivehi Language. In Addition to these, she oversees the teaching practicum for all teaching programs at Â鶹ÊÓƵ.
Apart from professional duties, she enjoys working on oratory skills and is apt at presenting events. In this manner, she is a popular face as host for key Â鶹ÊÓƵ events.
Ms. Shimla is a vital part of the faculty for her love of learning and proficiency in her subject areas. She is also an asset to the College for her fair and kind dealings with all her students.

Mohamed Iyaz Shakir
Lecturer
Mr. Mohamed Iyaz Shakir is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Educational Studies at our institution. He holds an MSc in Mathematics Education from the University of Colombo and has extensive experience in ...the field.
Mr. Shakir has worked as a Visiting Lecturer, a Qualified Teacher, and Head of Department in previous positions. He has a wide range of research interests including Algebraic Number Theory, Algebraic Geometry, and Mathematics Education. His current research project is focused on "The Role of Effective Pedagogy in Teaching Mathematics in Lower Secondary Education in the Maldives."
In terms of teaching, Mr. Shakir is currently responsible for delivering modules in Calculus & Linear Algebra, Advanced Calculus, Introductory Mechanics, and Advanced Mechanics. He also plays a key role in coordinating the Bachelor of Teaching Mathematics, Bachelor of Teaching Accounting and Business Studies, and Bachelor of Teaching Economics and Business Studies programmes. Mr. Shakir has also contributed to course development in Engineering Mathematics.

Azra Abdul Sattar

Ms. Azra is responsible for teaching a range of modules, including History of Psychology, Biological Psychology, Health Psychology, Psychology of Adult Development and Ageing, and Evolutionary Psychology. She also coordinates the Bachelor of Psychology program and has developed MSc Counseling modules.

Apart from her role as a Project Manager, Ms. Zuha is also an active researcher with a keen interest in higher education academics and professional development. Her publication titled "Correlation between Lecturers' Professional Development Activities and their Competencies in Maldives Higher Education Institutes" emphasizes the significance of ongoing professional development for educators in higher education institutions.
Ms. Zuha is currently teaching the Statistics and Data Analysis module. With her educational background in Mathematics and a Master in Education specializing in Planning & Administration from the University of Malaya Malaysia, Ms. Zuha is well-equipped to bring her expertise to the classroom and help her students succeed.
